I really like It when students talk to me privately at my desk when they're done with their work.
Today, one of the students told me that her earliest childhood memory (actually part of an assignment) was that she and her cousin—many years younger than she was at the time—turned out to have an imaginary friend with the same bizarre name. The student's family was, in fact, trying to adopt her little cousin whose father (the student's uncle) had suddenly died a few years ago, leaving her an orphan.
The cousins had never told each other about their imaginary friends until one day the little girl shyly mentioned to her bigger cousin that her friend Pookey had come to visit the night before.
The big cousin was astounded! That was the name of her imaginary friend who came to visit after the little cousin moved in with the family when her father died. The student now thinks that
it was her deceased uncle spiritually communicating with them both...
What do you think?
