Private Lessons

Tired of the Textbook?

CANDY newspaper phtoto

Our private lessons (in person or through SKYPE) are customized to what you want or need to learn--not what comes next in the textbook.   You don't have to worry that you've already had that lesson because all our lessons are created from original material.  Group lessons are limited to four students.

Chocolate English eu helps you improve your English through authentic material--newspapers and magazines, brochures, movies and YouTube videos, menus, websites, phone conversations--anything you hear, read or see in the real English-speaking world.

Lessons and Methods include:

  1. Focusing on everyday English conversation, reading and writing--informal and formal.
  2. Assistance with the speaking and writing sections of the TOEFL and IELTS exams.
  3. Editing for college entrance exams, resumes and cover letters.
  4. Help with overcoming the fear of phone conversations.
  5. Tips for learning how to speak like an English native.
  6. Help with pronunciation and intonation.
  7. Learning grammar in context--not just from books.
  8. "Walk-and-Talk" excursions to shops, cafes, supermarkets in the community to practice English.
  9. English for Special Purposes--Archaeology, Medical, Work and Career English.

If you've wanted to learn to speak American English, you've had to go to a language school in the US.  But no longer. You can now practice American-style English from your home online, with a private tutor. Learn to speak the form of English that is the most widely used in the world for business, surfing the Web and communicating informally and formally.

"I learned more from Ilene in a week of private lessons than from two months at the language school where I studied before."

Simone Cicchetti, international law consultant

Rome, Italy

Arrange as many lessons as you require.  There is no minimum number of classes you have to take.  You can even arrange for lessons via the phone or online (SKYPE).

Pay for lessons as you go. Fees are competitive with other language instruction in New Mexico (or the US).  Fees cover all copies of any materials used in the lessons.

You will receive a weekly progress report, summarizing your language goals, the content of your lessons and the new language skills you have acquired.  At the end of your lessons, you’ll receive suggestions on how to further improve or maintain your English skills.  Finally, there’s a chocolate treat waiting for you when you finish your lessons--if you live nearby!

We look forward to working with you.  The most important thing is that you enjoy your lessons.  If you enjoy your lessons, you'll learn.  And remember:  English lessons should be like chocolate:  they should be good, they should be fun and they should make you want to come back for more.

Chocolate English eu is intended for students speaking at pre-intermediate, intermediate, upper-intermediate, advanced, and proficient levels.

Beginning and elementary students often need the structure textbook-based lessons provide. We will refer these students to established tutors for lessons. **
